MINNEAPOLIS, MN: LaBreche Murray Public Relations is forming its third new practice area in just one month, starting a tech practice to go along with IR and public affairs.

'Those are PR areas that have always been part of LaBreche Murray's strategic plan,' said partner Jerry Murray. 'It was the right time to formalize those practices.'

New people have been hired to head all three operations. Steve Sterling joined in October from a Silicon Valley tech company to head the tech practice. Maria Moeller, formerly with Honeywell, is leading the public affairs practice and long-time Minneapolis IR specialist Kim Lees is heading IR. The firm also is seeking new hires to staff all three arms, Murray said. Staff numbers at the 10-year-old agency have grown from 15 at the start of the year to 22 now.

The recent woes suffered by tech stocks didn't dissuade the firm from getting more involved in tech PR, explained Murray. 'We feel the hi-tech market regionally will remain very strong,' he said.

The firm has shied away from dot-com clients, instead going after other tech firms in its Upper Midwest market area.
