NEW YORK: Cahners Business Information continues to build its newly minted New York PR office with the high-profile appointment of Salina Le Bris, former director of public affairs at Consolidated Edison, to director of communications.

Cahners, which owns publications such as Variety, Publishers Weekly and Interior Design, recently moved its offices from Newton, MA, to New York. The move followed the appointment of Marc Teren to CEO in February.

Prior to her stint at Con Edison, Le Bris was an account manager with Herndon Associates and director of marketing for Streamedia.net, an Internet consulting firm.

But her experience at Con Edison may be her most relevant qualification, as she worked for the utility during the industry's deregulation in 1996.

Life after deregulation has not always been easy for Con Edison. Power losses during hot summer months and higher costs for consumers are two topics the media have relentlessly dissected.

'I'm now serving in a comparable role,' said Le Bris. 'I'm walking into a company that is embarking on a significant change and my role in that is helping to communicate this strategy and vision to employees.'

None of Cahners' Newton staff chose to make the switch to New York, forcing the corporate communications and PR division to rebuild from scratch.

Lisa Kitei, formerly of the Walt Disney Company, was appointed the department's SVP in September and will oversee Le Bris.

Eventually, the internal team will comprise seven people and Cahners is still trying to fill the position of PR manager. The company is also poised to sign a PR agency of record. In pole position for the business is said to be the New York-based multi-disciplined agency Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners.
