LONDON: Rowland Communications has won DuPont's seven-figure global PR and advertising account for its non-stick textile brand Teflon.

The UK and European PR campaign will be coordinated and managed from Rowland's London office, while advertising will be led from the agency's Geneva division. The US portion will be handled from Rowland's Rochester, NY office.

DuPont awarded Rowland the work following a three-way competitive pitch.

It is the first time Teflon has appointed an agency of record on this brief.

Rowland client services director, Richard Moss, and European planning director, Richard Stacy, will lead the UK and European PR business, heading a three-person team and reporting to Teflon's Leicester division in the north of England.

'Our role in London is to develop template plans which can be implemented across Europe, centralizing the thinking, yet allowing room for adaptation,' said Moss.

The PR campaign will be funded out of Teflon's European ad and communications budget - split equally between the two - worth up to pounds 1m (dollars 1.5m).

Teflon global textiles manager, Teresa Kleinhans, said: 'Rowland's intimate knowledge of our business and globally integrated organization matches the Teflon brand's need to capitalize on worldwide opportunities, enter new markets and increase share.'

Invented in 1938, Teflon is recognized for its non-stick properties. But Teflon has since come to be accepted as a soil and stain repellent, as well as having applications in home furnishings and outdoor clothes.

Rowland works on other DuPont accounts, including Lycra in the UK, which it won early last month from incumbent PR agency Caroline Neville Associates, and the firm's US agricultural account.
