BOULDER, CO: In the first move of what appears to be a major restructuring of its worldwide technology practice, GCI Group has promoted Dianne Gleason to executive vice president and managing director of global technology.

Gleason - who founded the agency's Boulder office three months ago with husband and GM Bob Berger - had been heading the firm's emerging technologies group. In addition, she has served as the lead on the AltaVista account, which shifted its corporate and consumer business from Porter Novelli to GCI in October 2000.

According to GCI North America president Bob Pearson, no direct replacement for Gleason is planned, as the agency is evolving toward a more centralized global structure.

Up until now, GCI divided its technology practice into four national subgroups: emerging technologies, core technologies, interactive strategies and networked markets. All of these subgroups have now been phased out.

In her newly created position, Gleason joins fellow global practice leaders Ilyssa Levins, who heads up healthcare, and Rupert Ashe, who leads financial relations.

Gleason, who joined GCI's San Francisco office in June 1998, has helped win and work on such high-profile clients as Netcentives, StorageTek and netLibrary.

Gleason began her career at San Diego's McQuerter Group, where she managed PR programs for Qualcomm and Fujitsu. She also spent several years running her own marcom consulting practice.
