WASHINGTON: Joseph Fisher, former CEO of Burson-Marsteller US, has been appointed CEO of Streampipe.com, an Internet broadcasting firm that targets PR agencies as consumers of streaming media technology.

Fisher, who quit Burson last October, will be reunited at Streampipe with fellow alum Kurt Krauss, who has been appointed chairman of the board.

Streaming media allows users on either end of a computer terminal to interact in real time, which Fisher said will revolutionize press conferences.

'This is a technology that will change basic business-to-business communication,' he said. 'It's going to change press announcements, releases and interaction with opinion leaders.'

According to Fisher, reporters often would rather not go to a press conference, but still need to see a CEO face-to-face. 'With streaming media,' he said, 'you can reach that reporter right at his or her desk.'

Other communications markets 3-year-old Streampipe is reportedly eyeing include investor relations and marketing.

'A CEO can get in front of the analysts instead of having a teleconference,' said Fisher. 'For marketing, you can market products directly on the Internet, respond to questions, and interact and receive feedback on a live-video basis.'
