NEWS IN BRIEF

GERMANTOWN, MD: Hughes Network Systems (HNS), a major manufacturer of satellite communications equipment, has handed its estimated dollars 1.5 million PR business to Alexander Ogilvy. The account, which was handled by Porter Novelli until the agency resigned it last year, included work for the company's five divisions in the US and overseas. It will be served out of AO's Washington, DC office, with support from international operations. HNS, best known for its set-top satellite TV receivers, is a subsidiary of CA-based Hughes Electronics, which is in turn owned by General Electric.
