VA shortlists for anti-smoking push

RICHMOND, VA: Seven agencies, six of whom are located in the state

capital of Richmond, have been chosen as finalists for Virginia's

dollars 28 million anti-smoking public education business.

The finalists are Arnold Worldwide; Barber Martin & Associates; Burford

Company Advertising; Edelman Scott; Neathawk Dubuque; Siddall, Matus &

Coughter; and Work Inc. All but Arnold are based in Richmond. Arnold,

based in Boston, has a McLean, VA office.

Finalists will make oral presentations to the foundation's marketing

committee on May 23 and 24. Then a recommendation of an agency will be

made to the board of trustees on June 19. Clarence Carter, VTSF

executive director, expects the winning agency to be on board no later

than July 1.

The account, which can go up to five years, is funded by the Virginia

Tobacco Settlement Foundation (VTSF), which was part of the Master

Settlement Agreement negotiated between the states and tobacco

companies.
