CAREERS: Where I Work - Tom Stewart, director, Public Strategies,Inc

How long have you been in your job?

Not very long - nine months to be exact. I was previously with Entergy

for four years.

Describe the space you work in

My desk is a big, fat mess. I clean up maybe once a quarter by neatly

restacking the stacks. However, the floors are pretty clear (except for

the stains, and we just won't go into that).

There are pictures of my lovely bride scattered everywhere, along with

countless awards, trophies and recognition for being a swell guy. (OK.

There are only three little, minor awards and a bunch of

bric-a-brac ... but there are lots of pictures of my bride!) I have a

lovely view of a nearby parking lot, playground and the Dallas

skyline.

Do you socialize with your colleagues?

Yup, but only when I drink heavily.

How often do you see the boss?

As often as is necessary.

Who is the smartest person you work with?

So many smart ones, so little time.

Who is the craziest?

Probably me ... and that is a crazy and scary thought.

How comfortable are your offices?

Very comfortable in a corporate sort of way. This is Dallas you

know ... appearances still count.

How often are you still there when the cleaners come round?

Almost every day, but I think they come early here.

What is the best thing about working there?

The people I work with, of course.

And the worst thing?

Constant supply of Oreo double-stuff cookies. It makes it hard to keep

my girlish figure.

What's been your biggest mistake while working there?

I know this sounds weird, but I haven't really made any bad mistakes

yet. Usually by this time into a new job I've got a list a mile long.

Hopefully, I've learned something along the way.

And your luckiest break?

Just getting the damn job!

What is the biggest thing to hit your office in the past year?

The flu.

Sneak us a good piece of gossip from your office

It has something to do with a press list, The White House and a former

member of an undisclosed presidential administration - to be named

never. I'd tell you, but they'd kill me.
