Gates Foundation rethinks PA team

SEATTLE: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is shuffling its

public affairs team.

In a newly created role, Trevor Neilson will position foundation

grantees as world leaders in their respective fields. Replacing Neilson

as director of public affairs is Joe Cerrell, who will come on board May

28.

The moves will prolong the foundation's current PR agency search.

Neilson said no decisions will be made on which of the eight firms

currently pitching will be shortlisted.

Cerrell, former assistant press secretary to Al Gore, has worked for two

of the eight firms vying for the business, APCO and Pyramid

Communications. However, Neilson claimed no conflict existed.
