LAST CALL: Reed is not dead, there's still Hope

Apparently a student of the 'Bob Hope 'I'm not dead!'' school of

PR, former Velvet Underground star Lou Reed has put out an official

press release insisting he is alive, the AP's consumer Web site Ananova

reported last week.

The non-death of Reed, 59 - who is in Holland working on a new project -

hasn't quite garnered the headlines of Bob Hope's 1998 non-death press

release, which followed a live C-SPAN elegy by Rep. Bob Stump

(R-AZ).

Clearly the AP - which posted the 'news' of Hope's death - was more

diligent with fact-checking this time around.

Sadly, there are no plans for Reed - famous for heroin, electroshock

therapy, and the generous patronage of Andy Warhol - to team with Hope,

either in this life or beyond.
