GM's latest marketing efforts center on diversity

DETROIT: General Motors has formed a new Center of Expertise on

Diversity that will help coordinate marketing and PR efforts aimed at

women, Hispanics, African-Americans and Asian-Americans.

GM has set up five regional offices that handle local PR events aimed at

ethnic markets. The new center will coordinate these efforts, asking

'what are the things we should be doing, where are we doing them and

what is the scale on which we should be doing this,' explained Peg

Holmes, GM director of regional and marketing communications. Holmes

will provide PR support to the center, but she will hold no title in

it.

The regional offices will provide PR support for the center in the form

of product PR, promotions, sponsorships and regional events.

The new center is being headed by Judy Hu, executive director

advertising and marketing strategy and operations, and Michael Jackson,

executive director sales support.

The center represents the latest attempt by GM to better coordinate its

marketing and PR efforts across its brands and regions, each of which

have handled such matters independent of each other in the past.
