INTERNATIONAL NEWS: PR voice sought to publicize VA's wine

RICHMOND, VA: It's not quite the Napa Valley, but the Virginia

Winegrowers Advisory Board and the Office of Promotion and Marketing

Services has issued a solicitation seeking communications services to

help boost the Commonwealth's industry. The goal is to promote the wine

industry and its products both within the state and nationally.



The five-year account seems small, but plans are ambitious. OPMS

currently spends less than dollars 125,000 annually, but PR duties,

described in the RFP, include development of media programs, staging of

media events and developing image enhancement programs on a state and

national level. The agency will also coordinate special events, produce

consumer and trade videos and participate in trade show programs.



Additional points will be given to agencies which are small, women or

minority-owned businesses. The search isn't confined to just Virginia

firms.



Proposals are due July 12, with a decision expected within a month.
