VeriSign seeks new PR representation

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA: VeriSign is reviewing its entire PR operation,

including its agency relationships, and has issued an RFP.

The Web infrastructure company, which creates payment and transaction

programs for online companies, had revenues of $213 million in

the first quarter of 2001.

VeriSign currently retains Merrit Group, based in northern Virginia, and

the agency is included in the review. "It is an overall review of our

communications efforts," said Tom Galvin, the newly appointed director

of corporate communications. Galvin was previously in PR at Cisco

Systems.

"We need an agency that can do everything from content development to

executive communications to media relations," he explained. The review

is expected to be completed within the next month, and no budget was

available.

Brocade, another Silicon Valley company that specializes in networking

storage, is also carrying out an agency review. The company, which

currently retains Voce Communications, is not issuing an RFP, but is

talking directly to various firms.
