Garfinkel turns up at Murphy O'Brien

LOS ANGELES: Less than eight months after leaving The Terpin Group

to head up Alexander Ogilvy's LA operations, Mike Garfinkel has

resurfaced with a new gig.

Garfinkel, who resigned from Alexander Ogilvy in April after the firm's

downsizing, has joined Santa Monica boutique Murphy O'Brien as an EVP

overseeing the firm's technology practice.

Garfinkel will be co-managing the growing 15-person agency alongside EVP

Allyson Rener, who runs the lifestyle/consumer division. He replaced

Richard McKinnon, who recently left the firm to pursue other

opportunities.

"The reason I decided to join here rather than somewhere else is that

this firm is absolutely committed to and actually growing its tech

practice rather than contracting in this area like so many other

agencies these days," he explained.

Garfinkel cited three new tech clients worth an estimated $500,000 in annual fee revenues that have signed on with Murphy O'Brien

in the past few weeks. Joining the roster are Digital Evolution, a

b-to-b software applications provider, Lowermybills.com, and Conductus,

a Silicon Valley maker of filtering technology for mobile phones. None

of the companies previously worked with full-service PR agencies.

In addition to technology, Murphy O'Brien represents a wide variety of

consumer clients, including See's Candy, the Pebble Beach Company, and

Century Plaza Hotel & Spa.
