Omnicom PR down in second quarter

NEW YORK: Omnicom Group reported second quarter results last week

that revealed while revenues from public relations are up year-on-year,

growth in the second quarter of 2001 was not as robust as in the

first.

Total Omnicom worldwide revenues were up 15% to $1,746.8 million

(net income was $151.4 million) with public relations businesses

contributing revenues of $250.8 million in the second quarter.

That figure represents year-on-year growth of 14.2%. But revenues from

public relations in the first quarter were up 18.3% from the same period

last year, to $275.4 million.

As a percentage of overall Omnicom revenues, PR also lost ground,

dropping from 15.8% to 15.7%, despite new acquisitions.

Key public relations agencies, which sit in the Diversified Agencies

Services division under CEO Thomas Harrison, include Fleishman-Hillard,

Ketchum, Porter Novelli, Brodeur, Gavin Anderson, Cone, and Matthews

Media Group.
