Wrigley draws up shortlist for work

CHICAGO: The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co., the world's largest maker of

chewing gum, has narrowed its search for a PR agency of record to

Chicago heavyweights Edelman Public Relations and Golin/Harris

International, and is expected to announce a winner in early August.

The gum company, which has never had a PR agency of record, had been

considering Ogilvy and BSMG as well as Edelman and Golin, but recently

narrowed the field to two. While Wrigley isn't publicly commenting on

the search, PR sources expect the account to mean a seven-figure

win.

Wrigley recently launched a new ad campaign for its Doublemint brand

featuring the tennis-playing Williams sisters. BBDO Chicago has been

Wrigley's ad agency of record for 68 years.

Wrigley reported second quarter earnings of 44 cents a share or $100 million, compared to 40 cents a quarter in the same period last

year.
