S&O is the PR pick of glass giant AFG

KINGSPORT, TN: After five years of project work, Pittsburgh agency

Skutski & Oltmanns (S&O) has beaten out four other agencies to become

agency of record for the glass manufacturing giant, AFG Industries. AFG

will be a top-five client for the 20-person agency.

Betsy Pardue, director of e-business and corporate communications for

AFG, said the company needed an agency of record to relieve its

overworked in-house marketing team of eight. The company had not hired

new staffers despite adding staff responsibilities, including

e-business. Pardue admitted that overwork led to hurriedly-written,

muddled PR messages.

She said AFG will look to S&O to help it forge a consistent corporate

identity across constituencies including the trade press, advertising,

corporate literature and the company's electronic presence.

AFG will still use other agencies for project work, including

Internet-based marketing.

Pardue said the company chose S&O because the company had appeared to do

its research. "Their presentation covered a broad range of touchpoints

with the customers and prospective customers and the glass industry in

general," she said. "They also had acquired a substantial amount of

knowledge about our industry and were able to indicate some of that

knowledge, as well as their understanding of the competitive nature of

our business."

Bob Oltmanns, president of S&O, said he was "proud" to add AFG to his

agency's 20-year history of corporate and industrial marketing and

communications.
