LAST CALL: WSW deal almost didn't get the call

While the Weber Shandwick/BSMG merger has dominated the headlines

in recent weeks, PRWeek can reveal how close it came to not happening at

all.

Why? When Harris Diamond, Larry Weber and Andy Polansky were holed up at

the Harrison Conference Center in Glen Cove, NY, to hammer out the deal,

it seems they weren't made aware of one tiny drawback: the hotel is in a

cellphone service black hole and they were cut off from the outside

world.

Chris Costabile, general manager of the property, said he was working

with the city to get cellphone service for the conference center, but

added that he hasn't had any complaints about the lack of service.

Or maybe he just missed the calls.
