Fleishman starts show biz practice

NEW YORK: Fleishman-Hillard is starting an arts and entertainment

practice to go after sponsorship and promotion business, as well as

develop dedicated television programming for new clients.

Peter Stamelman, formerly VP of internal business development with TBWA

Entertainment, has been hired as SVP for the new area, which Fleishman

is calling ACE: Arts, Culture, and Entertainment. He'll draw on existing

Fleishman staff around the world as needed, since no other staffers are

working exclusively for the new practice.

Stamelman has been in the entertainment business for 24 years, including

a stint with ABC Entertainment. "We brought in a leader with a

non-traditional background for PR, but someone solid in arts and media

communications," said Peter Verrengia, regional president and GM of

Fleishman's New York office. "With him, we can understand what our

clients wish to accomplish."

The new operation is not likely to do much promoting of individual TV

shows or performers, Verrengia said. ACE will work on sponsorship

projects and on involving PR in production of programming for individual

clients, he said.

Fleishman has done work for such entertainment clients as the 2001 MTV

Video Music Awards, the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and People

magazine.
