Berkey named as PAC chairwoman

WASHINGTON: The board of directors of the Public Affairs Council

has elected Ann Richardson Berkey, VP of public affairs at San

Francisco's McKeeson Corporation, its new chairwoman. Berkey replaces

Nick Franklin, SVP of public affairs at PacifiCare Health Systems. She

was elected earlier this month at the board of directors meeting in

Scottsdale, AZ.

McKeeson is a Fortune 40 corporation, and the world's largest supply

management and healthcare information technology company. Berkey, who

handles all government relations and public policy activities for the

company, spent the past year as chair of the Foundation for Public

Affairs.

APCO CEO Margery Kraus was also elected as a vice chairman, making her

the only member of the board hailing from the agency side. Susan Neely,

SVP of communications at the Association for American Medical Colleges -

currently serving a term as a vice chairman - was tapped to take over

the chairmanship in 2003.

Textron government affairs director Gordon Thomas was elected

treasurer.

Doug Pinkham was reelected president.

All in all, 36 new directors were elected to the board, including

representatives from the Nuclear Energy Institute, Northrop Grumman,

International Paper, and Ford Motor Company.
