Oracle raids Chase for new global PR VP

REDWOOD CITY, CA: Oracle has named Chase Manhattan's James Finn as

its new VP of worldwide public relations.



Finn will spearhead a vastly beefed-up in-house team, and will cast his

net far and wide to recruit more talent. He will also scrutinize

Oracle's PR agency relationships with an open mind. "Everything is on

the table," he explained.



Last month, Oracle ended its eight-year relationship with agency of

record Applied Communications. Oracle continues to retain PR21 to work

on the applications side. Finn said he will start discussions with PR21

soon.



"I'm going to be looking at the whole situation. The goal is to

communicate as one company with one voice, and I have an open mind about

how we achieve that."



The position was previously held by Margaret Lasecke-Jacobs, but has not

been filled for a year. Oracle currently has an in-house PR team of

about 25 people.



Finn will report to Mark Jarvis, chief marketing officer. Jarvis said

filling the job was not easy. "It was very hard to find people in PR who

have global experience," he said.



"In talking to Mark, it became very clear to me that we share the same

brand of aggressive PR thinking," Finn said.



Finn was previously SVP for PR at Chase Manhattan, and an executive with

the New York-based treasurer's office of General Motors. He also worked

in IBM's Europe, Middle East, and Africa operations.
