CAREERS: My Big Break - Anna Clemmons currently works in legalmarketing at Levick Strategic Communications in Washington, DC

When I was five years old, I became obsessed with the Juicy Fruit

jingle. I sang it incessantly, much to the chagrin of my family and

friends.

Soon the Folgers jingle was added to the mix, and then the familiar

Oscar Meyer, "My bologna has a first name ..." I was a continuous

recording of jingles - you name the product, I'd sing the song.

One day my fed-up father declared, "You ought to do advertising or PR

since you can't get enough of it." I laughed it off, but in college I

began seriously considering the suggestion. I loved talking to people, I

was creative, and math and science were definitely not in my future.

So I e-mailed some companies including BSMG, regarding PR

internships.

Although I had no experience, I landed a summer job with them. Each day

I found myself working on Pizza Hut slogans, ABC Daytime auctions, and

even mailing presents to Madonna.

Now that I'm in PR, I don't plan on leaving anytime soon.

I presently work in legal marketing. It's a different angle, but still

filled with the excitement of placements and opportunities. Who

knows?

Maybe one day I'll work on the client side for Juicy Fruit.
