Disney hands over PR reins to Mucha

LOS ANGELES: In a significant consolidation of its communications efforts, Disney has handed the company's entire PR operation over to top ABC publicist Zenia Mucha.

Mucha joined ABC in early 2001 after a political career that included stints as an advisor to former Senator Al D'Amato (R-NY) and Governor George Pataki (R-NY). Her predecessor, SVP of corporate communications John Dreyer, has resigned his post, but will stay with Disney as a consultant.

Even as the reshuffling plays out, ABC News staffers continue to smart over the network's ill-fated pursuit of David Letterman. During the negotiations, an anonymous executive dismissed Nightline, the show Letterman was to replace, as "irrelevant.

Mucha has denied reports indicating that she may have been the source of that comment.

"One of the things I will try to do is initiate better communication among the various divisions, which will bring about a more unified corporate message,

said Mucha. "I want to provide each unit with what they need to not only tell their part of the story, but the story of the company as a whole."
