DALLAS: Don Bartholomew has been named MD of GCI Group's US tech practice.Dianne Gleason, formerly chair of the firm's global tech division, was laid off in April. That same month, the firm had been in negotiations with midsize tech PR firm Wilson McHenry, but the talks collapsed.
GCI counts Dell as one of its clients. The agency won a fiercely competitive pitch for Dell's US account in September 2001.
Bartholomew, who is MD of GCI Read-Poland, will continue in a dual role, based in Dallas. Previously, he was MD of Alexander Ogilvy's Dallas office, and launched the Austin office of Cunningham Communications.
"We are coming through the rockiest period in the history of tech, exacerbated by the huge dot-com bubble that made it appear worse than it was,
Bartholomew said. "Our biggest challenge is to prove there is tech business out there."
Rick Rice, recently appointed GM of GCI's San Francisco office, is serving as the head of the Bay Area tech practice as part of his new role.
