TAIPEI: Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide has purchased a 70% stake in tech-focused Taiwan PR firm Era Public Relations. The acquisition marks the latest in a series of recent moves by Ogilvy to expand in the Asian market.

Era was founded in 1992, and has counted Xilinx, Oracle, and Dell Computer among its clients. Ogilvy and Era have worked together for about three years, and are currently the two largest PR firms in the market.

"I have never seen such an opportunity for two firms that are so much bigger than the rest of the market to join forces, said Matthew Anderson, president of Asia Pacific for Ogilvy. He added that most firms in Taiwan have fewer than 20 staffers, while the Ogilvy-Era combination will employ more than 100.

Ogilvy said the synergies with the Ogilvy Asia network were apparent to Era, as tech manufacturing has been shifting from Taiwan into China, where production costs are much lower.
