FIFA kicks out its PR chief after Cup

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND: International soccer body FIFA has sacked PR chief Keith Cooper, and temporarily handed its top communications role to the president's adviser, Markus Siegler.

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND: International soccer body FIFA has sacked PR chief Keith Cooper, and temporarily handed its top communications role to the president's adviser, Markus Siegler.

Siegler takes on the role on an interim basis, alongside his existing job as spokesman for FIFA president Sepp Blatter.

Cooper bad been at FIFA for seven years. Speculation suggests Cooper's firing comes as part of a Blatter-led clear-out, which has already seen the departure of former general secretary Michel Zen-Ruffinen.

Cooper said in a statement he had been given no explanation for his dismissal.

He added, "This is something of a surprise coming less than two weeks after the end of a World Cup in which the media organization was regarded as one of the best of its kind."
