Eurocom sets up shop in Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO: Eurocom PR Network, an independent coalition of agencies, has opened an office in San Francisco.

SAN FRANCISCO: Eurocom PR Network, an independent coalition of agencies, has opened an office in San Francisco.

The outpost will be headed by Susan Spencer, who runs her own tech firm, Quru Communications. She will work with clients to facilitate media contacts and campaigns in the Bay Area, in partnership with local PR firms.

Spencer doesn't plan to use her relationship with Eurocom to engage more clients for her firm, rather she'll help companies develop relationships.

"The best fit is between Eurocom and the PR firms and companies here that are media-relations oriented, Spencer said. "I can be the glue in the middle."

The network, which is UK-based and specializes in enhancing media coverage for tech clients, launched in April 2002. Although it is focusing on media relations, the coalition members are full-service PR firms. Twenty agencies are part of the network, and no country outside the US has more than one member. A Boston-based East Coast operation is run by Carol Wolicki.

Tom Burgess, CEO and head of PR firm EMGtech, said that Eurocom is focusing on helping clients in Europe and the Middle East to begin with, but intends to expand to Asia and Latin America. "We are particularly targeting US companies, and also offering the capability to US PR firms, Burgess said.

Eurocom has been hired for project work, but has yet to win a standalone international client.
