Michelin takes its relationship with Event to next level

DETROIT: Michelin North America has taken on Detroit-area shop Event Management to handle PR for its automotive industry division.

DETROIT: Michelin North America has taken on Detroit-area shop Event Management to handle PR for its automotive industry division.

Event Management has handled PR for Michelin motor sports in the past, as well as taking on other projects for Michelin and its B.F. Goodrich brand, said Lynn Mann, PR manager at Michelin North America.

"We're extending the scope of the relationship, she said. Michelin has been impressed with the PR firm's contacts in the automotive world, she added.

The firm will handle PR for Michelin original equipment tires sold to automakers in the passenger car and light truck markets.

"Ninety percent of what they'll handle is business-to-business, and the majority of the work will be in Detroit, Mann said.

Event Management will also handle North American PR for the upcoming Michelin Challenge Bibendum, an annual event taking place in Germany and France later this month to showcase environmentally friendly vehicles. Bibendum is the official name of the Michelin Man.

Michelin doesn't break out North American sales, but did report first-half worldwide sales of 7.8 billion euros, an increase of 1.4% from the same period last year.
