KANATA, ONTARIO: Two PR firms are fighting it out as Canadian telecoms outfit Nortel Networks considers the future of its corporate communications account.

KANATA, ONTARIO: Two PR firms are fighting it out as Canadian telecoms outfit Nortel Networks considers the future of its corporate communications account.

A source close to the $3 million RFP issued in February revealed that both Magnet Communications and MS&L are still in the picture, although Nortel's director of global communications David Chamberlain said he wasn't close to announcing a decision. PWC Consulting has also been involved in the process.

The initial RFP had included product business. Incumbent Fleishman-Hillard has already retained that work.

Nortel is said to be looking for an agency that will help disperse its corporate message in the New York market. The second part of the brief is working on domestic issues in Canada. The company wants to shift stories away from its stock price and toward its efforts as a major telecom player.
