SAN FRANCISCO: Hi-tech PR firm Bite Communications is developing its first specialty practice, with a focus on mobile communications.

"We see mobile and wireless technology as a major growth area," said Judy Wilks, president of Bite. "So we wanted to make sure we have the expertise to take advantage of that growth."

The decision to launch Bite's first industry-specific practice came from looking at which hi-tech industries were poised for considerable future growth.

While the practice will be based in the San Francisco office, Bite's other offices will also play a role, especially in Sweden, "the heart of mobile development."

To bolster its new practice, Bite has hired new blood. VP Leslie Nakajima will lead the tech practice, having just left Openwave Systems as PR director.

Assisting Nakajima will be account manager Anne-Miek Hamelinck, who has done mobile and b-to-b PR work for Cisco and Casio.
