RICHMOND, VA: Katherine Trent has been promoted to director of Philip Morris Management's agricultural-relations program.

Trent will oversee the food and tobacco company's Shared Solutions program through which it works on public affairs issues that impact American farmers and other agriculture-related industries.

Shared Solutions awards cash grants to various farm groups working on issues that involve consumer education, food safety, the environment, trade liberalization, production risk management, and the overall issue of building demand for US crops.

"We believe the time is ripe for production agriculture and consumer-products companies to begin thinking as one industry," Trent said.

Trent has worked on the program since it began in 1999. She had been manager of agricultural relations before her promotion, and is a member of the National Agri-Marketing Association.

Philip Morris' operating companies include Kraft Foods North America, Kraft Foods International, Philip Morris USA, and Philip Morris International.
