DUBLIN, OH: Cardinal Health, provider of healthcare products and services, has appointed Sari Macrie to the position of SVP of corporate communications.

The hire is the first of its kind in the company's history.

"Other than regular media relations and sending out press releases, we have never taken a proactive approach in the past when it came to communications," said Tony Rucci, EVP and chief administrative officer for Cardinal Health.

"Sari's new role marks our intention going forward of proactively managing our reputation."

Cardinal has grown 20% each year for 15 consecutive years, said Rucci, and was in search of a communications head who would "appreciate the company's financial performance, and blend it with a broader brand message," he explained.

Prior to accepting the new post, Macrie served as VP of IR at Ameritech.

Through surveys and direct outreach, Cardinal Health learned that its customers feel there is value-added equity in the company name. As a result, Cardinal's goal is to go beyond its individual brands, and approach consumers with a broader integrated approach.

"People in the financial community know who we are," said Macrie, "but now we need to make ourselves more visible to the public, the healthcare community, and other stakeholders."
