WASHINGTON DC: Veteran public relations executive E. Bruce Harrison, APR, has joined O'Connor & Hannan, a Washington DC-based law firm, as a special advisor.

Harrison, who sold his firm, E. Bruce Harrison, to Ruder Finn in 1995, will contribute to the environment, energy, health and safety practices in the company. Harrisons reputation is widely-recognized in the area of environmental PR.

O'Connor & Hannan has a large environmental law practice which specializes in natural resources law; Clean Water Act issues; and hazardous waste management, disposal and clean-up.

Harrison sees a growing marriage between law and public relations. 'For people who win for their clients in Washington, the marriage of law and public opinion is nothing new.

'You have to tie statutes to shareholders. I'm happy to be involved with an outstanding firm that understands this, and I'm happy if my advice is helpful,' he said.

When Harrison retired as president from Ruder Finn Washington last year, he became executive director of the Arthur W. Page Society, a New York-based association of corporate PR executives. He plans to continue in this position. He will also continue to develop EnviroComm, a franchised network of PR firms, principally in Europe. He said ten firms are members of EnviroComm and he expects to add two more in the near future.

Harrison is a Fellow and past chairman of the Counselors Academy of the Public Relations Society of America.
