Rothstein's MWW role more in tune with PR interests

NEW YORK: Richard Rothstein, the founder of Edelman Medical Communications, has left his post as president of Cairns-Rothstein Health Sciences to head MWW Group's new Health Sciences Division.

NEW YORK: Richard Rothstein, the founder of Edelman Medical Communications, has left his post as president of Cairns-Rothstein Health Sciences to head MWW Group's new Health Sciences Division.

Rothstein will lead a six-person team and report directly to MWW chief Michael Kempner. He said a clash of styles with former partner Anne-Marie Cairns had prompted his departure. Cairns specializes in consumer products while Rothstein concentrates on science issues. 'The resources of MWW are more compatible with my style and my needs,' he explained.

Two clients, including an unnamed biotech company, are expected to follow Rothstein to MWW. The division will also handle MWW accounts including Myriad Genetics and Qualcare.

Francesca Wakem, formerly deputy national finance director for the Democratic National Committee, has joined MWW's Washington office as Director of Federal Affairs.

She will manage national public affairs and government relations program.
