TV editor wants to see more effort in story pitches

NEW YORK: New York Daily News editor Christy Slewinski says she is taken aback by the lack of effort put in by public relations executives pitching ideas to her for stories on TV shows.

NEW YORK: New York Daily News editor Christy Slewinski says she is taken aback by the lack of effort put in by public relations executives pitching ideas to her for stories on TV shows.

Slewinski, editor of Vue, the TV magazine published with the Sunday Daily News, says: 'I am surprised at the number of PRs who don't call me in person. The chances of me seeing a pitch on a fax are about 35%. It is their job to pitch on the phone.'

The editor claims she often sees programs she wishes she'd had the opportunity to review and claims that PR pros who mail and don't follow up with a call are not doing their jobs properly.

Slewinksi who is a former PR student, said she reviews a wide range of programs and will take time to sit down and watch material. 'The people who take the time to call get to know how I work and know when I'll do something.'.
