The deal, however, had less to do with geography than with Michael

Sitrick’s admiration of Loving chief Rush Loving’s abilities.

’Certainly, Washington is an important market for our clients,’ Sitrick

said. ’But our interest in Rush Loving and his firm has more to do with

adding someone of Rush’s caliber.’

Loving initially made his mark as a journalist, having served as

business editor of the Richmond Times-Dispatch and associate editor of

Fortune.

’It’s easier to teach an ex-journalist what PR is than a PR pro what

news is,’ said Sitrick.

Sitrick refused to disclose the terms of the deal, but the acquired firm

has a staff of four. Loving Associates does not boast an especially high

profile within the PR industry, but claims to have contributed to

campaigns involving aid to the Commonwealth of Independent States and to

replace the Federal Employers’ Liability Act.
