NEW YORK: Medialink and Business Wire have launched Newstream.com,

a two-year, dollars 4 million joint venture angling to be the premier

multimedia link between Internet news sites and corporate

communicators.

The companies are hoping to build an entirely new audience for corporate

multi-media communications: consumers at work.

’This is the intuitively correct way to reach a new audience at their

cubicles or on Mahogany row,’ said Medialink president Larry

Moskowitz.

The multimedia portal offers a wide range of capabilities, including

streaming audio and video, live webcasts, financial spreadsheets and

slide presentations. The site’s founders are hoping to entice the

Fortune 1000 clients of its parent companies to fund the wholesale

distribution of corporate content to over 6,000 news web sites.

Both Business Wire and Medialink have apparently gone to great lengths

to develop a proprietary database of the information needs of each of

its web clients, thereby targeting the right audience for each

message.

The key here is that the Newstream.com content will be free to all

end-user web sites. Of course, it will obey the usual PR business model,

where the client pays the toll to get its message out.

Newstream.com managing editor Les Blatt hyped the site’s wide range of

capabilities and content. ’Online journalists will now have a wealth of

multimedia content that they may not have had before,’ he said.

Newstream.com boasts its own in-house production staff of around 50, and

is a fully operational service-oriented business.
