PALO ALTO, CA: The former head of Edelman’s hi-tech practice has

joined the exodus of PR pros to Internet start-ups.

Paul Bergevin, previously the agency’s EVP of technology, has joined a

start-up code-named ’Itixs’ as VP of marketing.

Like most pros who have abandoned agency and corporate PR positions for

the promise of Net riches, Bergevin becomes a major stakeholder in the

operation. He will work alongside site founders Tim Hickman and Chris

Misner, both former Netscape execs.

The consumer-oriented site is scheduled to launch at the end of the

month, though Bergevin is unable to reveal any details about it during

the current ’stealth’ period. He has already appointed LA tech shop

SparkPR to tend to its communications needs, and has promised to ramp up

the in-house PR operation.

Bergevin left Edelman in September and was succeeded by his two

deputies, Miller Bonner and Harry Pforzheimer. Bonner has since been

named the firm’s New York GM of technology, taking over from Steve

Hoechster (PRWeek, Oct. 25).
