PR conspiracy or simple stupidity?

You can never be enough of an insider.

You can never be enough of an insider.

You can never be enough of an insider.

That seems to be the message sent two weeks ago by a PR agency to

Michael Mann, the Miami Vice creator who has since become one of

Hollywood’s top directors (Heat, The Insider).

While dining at New York’s recently reopened Russian Tea Room, Mann

spotted two actresses heading toward a private room for Soap Opera

Weekly’s 10th anniversary bash. Being a well-regarded Hollywood player,

he thought he’d stop in and say hello.

Alas, it was not to be. Mann was stopped at the door by Lydia Joy Abrams

of David Granoff PR.

’He showed me a card for his production company, Betsy’s Things, or

something,’ Abrams told the NY Post. ’I thought he was a linen

salesman.’

No word on whether the party’s attendees - including many actors and

actresses who would give up a limb to be cast in a Mann production -

attempted to string Abrams up for her overzealous gate-keeping
