AUSTIN, TX and WESTFORD, MA: General PR and public affairs shop

Read-Poland and one-person hi-tech boutique TechMarcom have announced a

strategic alliance aimed at servicing tech start-ups and dot-coms with

limited budgets.

The alliance makes sense from a geographical perspective. Read-Poland’s

clients will have the added benefit of representation to analysts,

venture capitalists and trade publications in the Northeast, while

TechMarcom clients will gain access to general PR, public affairs

counsel, IR and the Texas market of potential business customers.

’Rather than try to create an in-house tech PR division - which didn’t

make sense because of the size of the clients we serve - we decided to

ally ourselves with someone who is doing it already,’ said Read-Poland

AE Elizabeth Freese.

Both agencies mainly service local clients, and work on a project,

hourly or small retainer basis. While the firms are not currently

collaborating on accounts, Freese said they are preparing a joint

pitch.

’It’s a natural alliance,’ said TechMarcom president Jon Boroshok.

’There’s a big hi-tech belt in Austin, and Read-Poland is contacted by

small tech start-ups on a fairly regular basis.’ He added that he hopes

to form similar alliances with other agencies in the future.

Read-Poland is based in Austin, with offices in Dallas, Houston and

Washington, DC. The 20-person firm was established in 1951 and has

recently expanded its services to include Internet affiliate marketing

counsel and Web PR. Its clients include Central and South West

Corporation and Progressive Insurance.
