The agency hire follows a pitch and a comms restructure at Beiersdorf, with corporate comms and corporate sustainability merged.

Porter Novelli’s London-based sister agency Paradigm will handle consumer PR for the UK.

Porter Novelli also confirmed that its offices in six other Northern European markets – the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Ireland – have also been appointed in what is understood to be a new brief.

Last month Campaign revealed that WPP's AKQA had been handed a digital brief for the same region.

Beiersdorf is reaching the end of a three-year programme to cut 1,000 jobs first announced in 2011, with strong results reported this month.

These included a 17 per cent jump in third-quarter operating profit last week, with third-quarter earnings before interest and tax (EBIT), excluding one-off costs, of €216m (£181m).

Alongside Nivea, the consumer business of Beiersdorf includes the La Prairie skin care and Labello lip balm brands, while the brand also makes a range of other goods including industrial adhesives.
