Red Door appointed to spread antibiotics message

The pharmacy and over-the-counter medicines sectors have appointed Red Door Communications for a PR push to stop people asking their GP for antibiotics for coughs and colds.

The consumer media relations offensive aims to get the public to visit a website called Treat Yourself Better.

The agency is working on behalf of Pharmacy Voice, the community pharmacy umbrella body, and Proprietary Association of Great Britain, the trade association for manufacturers of over-the-counter medicines and food supplements.

PAGB director of health policy and public affairs Gopa Mitra said: "Our new campaign, launching today, aims to educate people on normal symptom duration and provide advice on how they can effectively treat themselves with pharmacy support to prevent unnecessary visits to their GP surgery or A&E department."
