The Better Than Cash Alliance is a global initiative funded by philanthropic bodies including the Ford Foundation and USAID, as well as payment companies MasterCard and Visa.

An RFP for public relations services has been issued by the alliance’s secretariat, the United Nations Capital Development Fund.

The key goal is to gather new commitments from 20 organisations such as governments, development bodies and companies to switch their payments to individuals from cash to digital.

The alliance believes this will advance financial inclusion among the world’s poor, help people build savings and provide a more efficient, transparent and often safer means of disbursing payments.

It is seeking an agency with a global presence for the work, which will run from February 2014 to December 2015.

Agencies must have a strong track record of having successfully dealt with leading media in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
