The national PR role includes managing the organisation’s press office and campaigns programme.

The charity began exploratory work with Spada in February, which coincided with the agency’s hire of director Emma Wheeler who was brought in to grow the agency’s third sector work.

Wheeler had a client relationship with the organisation before joining Spada.

Gavin Ingham Brooke, chief executive of Spada, said: "This role is highly significant: by 2020 a quarter of us will be 60 or over. The elderly care sector is one that raises a plethora of universally important issues and the range of professionals involved in policy, funding, development, welfare and services is impressive."

Jo O’Boyle, director of fundraising and public affairs at Friends of the Elderly, added: "Emma and the team at Spada have a good understanding of our sector and have already demonstrated the added value their team brings to our external communications. We look forward to a fruitful relationship that helps us raise greater awareness and support for the older people who need us."
