Fox will join on 23 September, taking over from acting head of news Greg Simpson.

Simpson, who is a speechwriter for the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Ed Davey, is filling in following the departure of head of news Nick Turton last Friday.

Turton told PRWeek in June he would be leaving at the end of this month to take a year-long career break following four-and-a-half years at the DECC.

He said: ‘I will hopefully be able to return to the DECC after my break, though not in the same role. I have covered my brief for a long time and we are in the process of recruiting for the post.’
