The agency picked up the retained brief via a competitive pitch and began work on the account this month.

Insight Public Affairs director James Tyrrell said a key focus of the brief, which enc-ompasses corporate public affairs and brand public affairs, would be working with the Government to promote the role the pharma-ceutical industry plays in the UK economy.

Tyrrell commented: ‘The life sciences industry is the jewel in the UK’s industrial crown. In order to win the global race, the Government needs to recognise the contribution that the industry makes, and act to ensure the UK benefits from jobs and investment.

‘Novartis discovers and develops innovative products that prevent and treat diseases and enhance quality of life, and we look forward to working with the company as the NHS and life sciences landscape evolves.’

PRWeek understands that Novartis’ head of government affairs, pharmaceuticals, Munira Wilson led the pitch and the agency will report directly to her.

Tyrrell added that the win was an illustration of the growth of Insight’s healthcare practice, which has expanded with new clients and team members in 2013.

In March this year, Novartis appointed APCO Worldwide to provide public affairs training for the company, with the account led by MD of APCO EMEA Philippe Maze-Sencier and project associate Magdalena Stepien.
