Attempts to enshrine guidelines on council comms in law, including limiting the publication of council newspapers, are on track after being included in the Queen’s Speech.
The LGA considered legal action earlier this month, but director of comms David Holdstock said its lawyers had advised steering clear of the law courts.
‘We were told the parliamentary process is where to air these arguments,’ he said. ‘We’re not giving up on this. It will be about pressing as it goes through that process.’
A recent consultation process about the moves, which come under The Local Audit and Accountability Bill, showed strong opposition from local government.
