A group formed by the universities of Aberystwyth, Bangor and Swansea is on the hunt for comms support as it encourages sustainable practice.

Named the Welsh Institute for Sustainable Environments (WISE) network, it focuses on research and innovation.

WISE director Jamie Newbold said: ‘By working in partnership with university research and development experts, and making use of their facilities, the project aims to better equip businesses to develop sustainable products, processes and services, and to become more economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.’

He explained that creating awareness about the project was central to its efforts to engage with SMEs, stake-holders and policymakers.

Part of this, he added, involved maintaining ‘a suitable profile to ensure that our work is visible, accessible and has a real and practical impact’.

A tender document seen by PRWeek revealed that the winning agency would need to ‘develop, drive and implement a comms plan’.

It would also be charged with leading on a range of PR work, including advising on positioning, story generation, media planning and events. Also included in the tender is lobbying, with bilingual abilities and knowledge of the Welsh political and economic landscape considered essential.

Backed by European funding, the network currently engages with more than 500 businesses. The body was praised at a press event last week by Welsh finance minister Jane Hutt for helping drive ‘a key goal’ for the Government.
