Mirren donned a T-shirt reading ‘Yes please! Just not outside a theatre!’ with a picture of a drum on the back, to promote the ensemble’s next scheduled gig at new LGBT London festival As One In The Park..
How I see it

They say the first rule of crisis PR is to tackle a potential problem head on.
So when Dame Helen Mirren became a rolling news story for shouting at a load of drummers to be quiet – while dressed as the Queen – it’s fair to say she had a potential crisis on her hands. Her outburst could have gone either way in PR terms and it was getting major news airtime across all media.
But Mirren followed the rule brilliantly with a fast-thinking photocall and interview. She ‘pardoned’ the drummers at the same time, helping promote one of their charity gigs, which she has promised to attend.
And she got her own key message across (keep drumming – but not outside my theatre) while promoting her own play, restoring her position in the nation’s hearts.
Long live the Queen (of PR?).
