Speaking at PRWeek’s PR and the Media conference last week, McKenzie said: ‘Facebook is populated by mums and PR staff. No self-respecting young person would be on Facebook.’
Instead, he argued Tumblr, Snapchat, Vine and Keek were more interesting outlets for young people. Tumblr is an established blogging platform that has attracted more than 49 billion posts and Snapchat is based around sending images to friends with control over when they get deleted. Keek and Vine both allow people to post very brief videos.
McKenzie and Sky News associate editor Simon Bucks both highlighted digital video as the medium most likely to grow in importance.
Other speakers included Motorola Solutions’ comms director Simon Craddock, BBC Radio5Live Breakfast editor Scott Solder, Transport for London’s campaigns and digital PR lead Ruben Govinden, and The Daily Telegraph’s media correspondent Neil Midgley.
